EVALUATION THE EFFECTS OF TIPTOPP'S PRODUCTS ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF Penaeus monodon POSTLARVAE IN DIFFERENT NURSERY PROTOCOLS
The results indicate that TipTopp Gut and TipTopp Pond are effective and applicable in P. monodon nurseries, supporting better survival, growth, and feed conversion. While statistical significance was not reached, the consistent numerical improvements suggest strong potential for productivity gains. Further studies with multi-strain probiotics are recommended to enhance disease protection.
In 2022, ShrimpVet Laboratory (Vietnam) and TipTopp Aquaculture (Netherlands) collaborated on a 30-day nursery trial with giant tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon) postlarvae. The aim was to evaluate the effects of TipTopp Gut (in-feed probiotic) and TipTopp Pond (water probiotic) on growth performance, survival, and feed efficiency under semi-commercial conditions.
Trial setup
- Species: P. monodon postlarvae (SPF, PL15)
- Duration: 30 days, ShrimpVet demonstration farm, Can Gio, Vietnam
- Treatments:
- Control: microalgae only
- Treatment 1: microalgae + TipTopp Gut + TipTopp Pond
- Treatment 2: TipTopp Gut + TipTopp Pond
- Tanks: 60 m³, density ~1000 PL/m³
- Feed: Skretting PL diets, 7–8 meals/day
Key findings
- No statistically significant differences between groups, but Treatment 2 consistently outperformed others.
- Survival:
- Control: ~71%
- Treatment 1: ~79%
- Treatment 2: ~83%
- Growth performance:
- Specific growth rate (SGR) highest in Treatment 2 (12.72%/day)
- Average daily growth (ADG) highest in Treatment 2 (0.008 g/day)
- Feed efficiency:
- Best FCR recorded in Treatment 2 (1.62 vs. 1.91 in control)
- Water quality: remained within optimal ranges in all groups.
