The effect of TIPTOPP's TipTopp Gut and Pond products in mitigating Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrosis Disease (AHPND) in whiteleg shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) under laboratory conditions

Research Results: TipTopp Gut against EMS/AHPND in Shrimp

In 2020, ShrimpVet Laboratory (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) conducted an independent trial to evaluate the effectiveness of TipTopp Gut as an in-feed probiotic for whiteleg shrimp (Penaeus vannamei). The study aimed to assess whether TipTopp Gut could mitigate the impact of Early Mortality Syndrome / Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrosis Disease (EMS/AHPND).

Study design

• Duration: 26 days (14 days feeding, followed by infection challenge + 10 days post-challenge observation).
  
• Six groups, including three different dosages of TipTopp Gut (1, 2 and 4 g/kg feed), a fermented soybean group, a negative control (no infection), and a positive control (infected, no protection).
  
• Four replicates per group.
  
  

Key findings

• Before infection, survival was similar across all groups (around 92–93%).
  
• After EMS/AHPND challenge:
  
  • Positive control (no TipTopp Gut): only ~10% survival.
    
  • TipTopp Gut 1 g/kg: ~30% survival.
    
  • TipTopp Gut 4 g/kg: ~56% survival (significantly higher than the positive control).
  • Negative control (no infection): ~94% survival, confirming the validity of the trial.
